Reflection

I chose four used books for my collage material, a book with black and white historical photographs, a cookery & recipe Book and two teaching photography books. My collages focus on the theme of memory, mainly inspired by artist John Stezaker, and use ways such as weaving, painting and hollowout. I hope to restore the vagueness and fragmentation of memory through these ways. Sometimes memory is not a complete story, but just a landscape with atmosphere and emotions mixed for a moment. Memories have always been my interest in the subject, memories are not always true, memories will lie to us, at last the lies of memories will fade, reality will completely disappear, people in the memory will leave us. In the collages, I interweave black and white images with color images to show the difficulty of identifying the truth and falsity of memory. The colors in the collages show our emotions. Even if the truth has been forgotten, the emotions will still linger in our hearts. I hope to show a childlike and nostalgic atmosphere in my work. I think the problem with the work is that the size is limited, because all the original pictures are cut from the book and all the sizes are small, and I think I should scan them and print them before I create them.
